Mikey Place (Michael Dilger) began his career at Sligo Rovers and, after a successful youth career (that saw him represent Ireland U16), he scored 2 senior League goals for Sligo in only 2 starts. Limited to mostly a substitute role as a young striker, Mikey found his first regular opportunities in the 2018 season after signing for Finn Harps.
After making his debut as a substitute on 25 May for Finn Harps, Mikey started the next 9 League games for them and scored 6 goals in the process. He also scored against Bray on 11 August in the FAI Senior Cup and by the time the Irish season finished, Mikey had scored 9 goals in 12 starts.
