Josh Ginnelly

Josh Ginnelly caught the eye as a tricky winger during the first year of his Shrewsbury Town scholarship such that by the end of the 2013/2014 season he had travelled with the first team squad to a League One fixture.

Featuring with the first team during the 2014/2015 pre-season, Josh was named as a substitute on 30th August 2014 for the League Two fixture against Luton Town, and entered the field of play in the last minute - thus making his professional and Football League debut in the process, whilst still a scholar. On the 4th October Josh entered the field of play again, this time away to Plymouth and enjoying 30 minutes as a substitute.

Throughout the 2014/2015 season Josh has scored 24 goals for Shrewsbury's youth/reserves - a prolific goals to games ratio for a wide player - which included wonder strikes (shown below) against Telford in the Shropshire Senior Cup final, and Wrexham.

After much interest from clubs around the UK for Josh's services, who had yet to sign his professional contract at Shrewsbury, Championship club Burnley won the race to secure Josh's signature when on the 10th August 2015 he signed a 3 year contract for the Clarets (after Burnley agreed an undisclosed compensation fee with Shrewsbury).

After impressing for Burnley's U21 side in the first few months of his pro career, Josh joined National League club Altrincham on loan on 8th January 2016. After a FA Trophy appearance, his League debut came away to Grimsby on the 23rd January 2016 (his first start in senior football) and in his first home game he scored in a man of the match performance against Woking. He scored again on the 9th February, against Wrexham and again in his next fixture against Lincoln - meaning Josh had scored 3 goals in his first 5 starts for Altrincham. On the 19th March 2016 Josh scored a wondergoal - picking up the ball deep in his own half before leaving defenders in his trail and calmly netting - and assisted in a 4-0 win against Aldershot. On the 28th March Josh scored his fifth goal, against Southport.

At the start of the 2016/2017 season, after impressing for the Burnley first team, Josh joined League One club Walsall on loan. He made his debut in the League Cup on 9th August 2016.
