Amadou was born in Sierra Leone although moved to the Netherlands at age of six. He played his youth football firstly at Velocitas 1897 and then moved to the prestigious FC Groningen academy.

Arriving in England with his family in his mid-teens, Amadou considered himself to be a midfielder and after playing some amateur football he earned a trial at Walsall at age 16. During his trial he was tried out as a striker and he impressed such that he was given a two year scholarship.

Although his arrival as a scholar was much later than his contemporaries he was the first youngster in his age group to be offered a professional contract - which he duly signed in December 2013 aged 17. It was his prolific goalscoring that caught the eye of the Walsall heirarchy ; in the first half of the 2013/14 season Amadou scored 10 goals in 12 youth games and 2 goals in 3 appearances for the reserve side.

Amadou made his professional debut on the 5th April 2014, entering the field of play as a second-half substitute in the League One fixture away to Port Vale. He has so far made a total of 13 substitute appearances in League One for the Saddlers, and has also scored a number of goals for Walsall in first-team Senior Cup fixtures - including a brace against Stafford and the winner in the Senior Cup final against Chasetown in May 2015.

In October 2014, Amadou had joined Conference Premier club Southport on loan and he scored on his debut against Braintree Town. He would score two goals in four starts for Gary Brabin's side.

A 6ft 4 striker with great physicality and pace, Amadou joined Telford on another loan in August 2015, and won a man of the match award on his debut the following day. After returning to Walsall, Amadou was named as a substitute for the first time in the season on 20th October, away to Barnsley. Amadou's first appearance of the season came on 5th December 2015, as a substitute away to Chesterfield.

In late January 2016 Amadou was out on loan again - this time to Worcester City - and he scored three goals in his first 6 appearances for them. The 2016/2017 pre-season was a big period for Amadou - regular goals and strong performances catapulted him in to the first team fray and on the first game of the League One season (home to AFC Wimbledon on 6th August) Amadou came on as a sub and provided a superb assist for Simeon Jackson. Amadou's first senior goals for Walsall came by way of a hat-trick against Grimsby in the Checkatrade Trophy on the 31st August and after another hat-trick in the Senior Cup he scored his fourth competitive goal for the Saddlers against Sheffield United in the Checkatrade Trophy. On 15th October 2016 the big one arrived - Amadou's first Football League goal in only his second start at home to Shrewsbury. Amadou ended the 2016/2017 season with 18 starts in the Football League and 4 goals. He particularly shone in the EFL Trophy, scoring 6 goals in that competition.

The 2017/2018 season saw Amadou established as a regular starter with his 6 goals by the turn of the New Year added to by numerous assists and all-action displays. By the end of the season, having by now amassed 93 Football League appearances and 20 professional goals in all competitions, Walsall opted to trigger the option in Amadou's contract, seeking to extend his stay at the Saddlers until the end of the 2018/2019 season.

On the 7th August 2018, Amadou was transferred from Walsall to Coventry City for an undisclosed fee, penning a contract at the Sky Blues until June 2020.
