Full Contact client Gboly Ariyibi has today signed an extended and improved contract at League One club Chesterfield.
Gboly, 20, has had to wait patiently for his opportunities to impress at Paul Cook’s side after signing for the Spireites in August. Whilst regularly named as a substitute, impressing in a few cameo appearances and shining on his first start for the club in the Football League Trophy, it was not until 17th February that Gboly started his first League game for his new club (away to Scunthorpe). Another start followed in the next game away to Rochdale, but it was perhaps Chesterfield’s vital 3-0 win at home to Fleetwood Town that heralded Gboly’s arrival as a Football League player. Gboly was a constant threat to the Fleetwood defenders and provided two excellent assists – duly being awarded his first man of the match award from the Proact stadium faithful.
In his next appearance Gboly’s input was again pivotal – a constant menace in the second half against MK Dons resulted in the experienced left back Dean Lewington receiving two yellow cards. Down to ten min, the Dons struggled to hold a resurgent Chesterfield who turned a 1-0 deficit into a valuable 2-1 away win.
Chesterfield have moved quick to secure the extended services of the exciting American born winger, with Gboly putting pen to paper on a deal that runs until the summer of 2017.
Full Contact’s Head of Football Agency Lee Payne commented “Gboly is such a rare talent in the English game; he plays with such freedom and raw, attacking instinct. He was unfortunate at Leeds, given the situation the club was in at the time, but Leeds’ loss is definitely Chesterfield’s gain, and in the last few weeks I think a lot of people have started to realise that Gboly has so much potential. Potential is all it is, of course, but this new deal allows Gboly to settle down, really focus on his game and start to develop into a player who is hugely effective on the game week in, week out.”
All at Full Contact wish Gboly and Chesterfield the very best for the remainder of the season. The Spireites – after winning their last two games – currently sit in 7th place in League One.
