The McLaren Autosport BRDC Award aims each year to identify Britain’s most promising driver, and the winner receives £100,000 and a F1 test with McLaren. The six finalists – Seb Morris, Jack Aitken, Jake Hughes, Chris Middlehurst, Matt Parry and Charlie Robertson (all pictured above) – have been put through their paces since the nominations were announced in a variety of cars, to include F2, DTM and GT vehicles, and undergone fitness, simulator tests and interviews with the Awards panel. Previous winners include Jenson Button, Paul Di Resta, David Coulthard and Dario Franchitti.
Aside from this Award, many of the sport’s biggest stars will flock to London to find out who has won the other eight awards available. Sebastian Vettel is of course the hot favourite to win the International Racing Driver of the Year, whilst the Rookie of the Year promises to be hotly contested – F1 drivers Jules Bianchi, Valterri Bottas, Esteban Gutierrez and Max Chilton face competition from FR3.5 competitor Stoffel Vandoorne and BTCC’s Sam Tordoff.
We wish Seb and all those attending a wonderful evening.
