Jonté Smith

Welling United

Jonté is one of a number of Bermudan players represented by Full Contact.

He started his career with North Village Rams in Bermuda before making the move to England in 2010 - and after a short spell with Sutton United in August 2011 he joined Crawley Town as a scholar. After a prolific goal-scoring season for Crawley's Under 18 and also reserve team - where he scored 25 goals including a FA Youth team hat-trick against Wycombe - Jonté signed his first professional contract in April 2012.

Jonté scored his first senior goal for Crawley in the 2012/2013 pre-season against Bromley in a 3-2 win. As that League season commenced, he was sent out on loan to the Met Police where he scored an astonishing 24 goals in just 19 appearances. Jonté was recalled from his loan and promoted to the first-team squad and he made his professional and Football League debut as a substitute in the 3-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth on 29 December 2012 - one of four substitute appearances in League One during the campaign before a loan spell with Conference South club Eastbourne Borough.

After signing a new one-year contract at the end of the 2012-13 season, Jonté would go on to have further loans at (again) Eastbourne and also Havant & Waterlooville, Met Police (again) and Gosport Borough. Despite regular goal-scoring and now considerable senior experience, Jonté would not be given any more opportunities to play for Crawley and he left the club in the summer of 2014.

Jonté was persuaded by English manager Tommy Taylor to move to Finland, where he signed for Tommy's club PS Kemi Kings. He scored 24 goals in 28 appearances before being transferred to Norwegian club Floy in early 2015.

Wanting to return to English football, Jonté - after World Cup duty for Bermuda - was available again by September 2015 but too late to sign for a professional club - so he signed a short-term deal for National League North club Gloucester City. He made his debut on 19th September as a half-time substitute. In the following game, a FA Cup tie, Jonte made his first start and he scored a goal with an excellent free-kick. He would score again in the FA Cup in the next round, a superb goal on the 10th October away to Leiston.

On 23rd January 2016 Jonté switched to non-league club Lewes, local to his home, and scored two goals on his debut and 10 in all. This led to a move to the National League South in the summer of 2016, signing for Welling United.

Jonté has represented his country at all age levels and to date has 5 senior caps and 1 goal.
