Joe Burgess

Boston United

Joe Burgess joined Peterborough United as a scholar. Whilst at Peterborough Joe was highly regarded and was often the captain of the Under 18 side. He also played a number of Under 21 and reserve fixtures, demonstrating his versatility by playing either centre back, right back or in midfield.

Released by the Posh, Joe began the 2014/2015 season gaining first team experience at Histon on a non-contract basis - quickly accumulating 14 starts in the League and FA Cup. On 31st October 2014 Joe signed non-contract terms at fellow non-league club Ilkeston FC, and impressed on his debut the very next day away to St Neots Town FC.

The St Neots fixture would prove to be Joe's solitary appearance for Ilkeston's first team, and he caught the eye of watching scouts (fellow Full Contact client Che Adams was on the brink of his move to the Football League) and was invited by two Football League clubs to attend a trial.

On 18th December, Joe signed his first professional contract, putting pen to paper on a deal at League One club Fleetwood Town until the end of the season.

On 9th March 2015, Joe returned to Ilkeston on a youth loan to aid a defensive crisis at his former club - he shone in a 2-2 draw away at league leaders FC Utd on 10th March in front of a 2,500 crowd. Joe's strong performances back at Ilkeston for the remainder of the season would play a key part in them making the promotion play-off final, where they fell at the final hurdle.

On 9th June 2015, Joe signed an one year deal back at Ilkeston - this time under the management of Gavin Strachan, who Joe had worked closely with at Peterborough. Keen to play week in, week out before striving to return to the professional game, Joe was named as club captain for his crucial season ahead. Joe scored his first goal for the club on the 24th October 2015 - a towering header at home to Grantham - and his second goal followed on the 14th November 2015.

After 26 impressive performances, on the 12th February 2016 Joe was transferred to Boston United in the National League North, who signed Joe to augment their promotion challenge to the National League. Joe made his debut the following day, against Stalybridge Celtic, and appeared 12 times before Boston lost in the play-off semi-finals. Shortly thereafter, Joe signed a new contract at the Pilgrims running until the summer of 2017.
