James Hardy

AFC Fylde

James Hardy was a product of Oldham Athletic's academy before moving to Manchester City in the summer of 2012. James made his Man City U18 debut as a 16 year old against Chelsea - a fixture that included the likes of Reuben Loftus-Cheek and Brandon Barker.

During his three years at Man City, James often impressed at Under 18 level (including scoring the winner in a high profile fixture against Aston Villa in Hong Kong) and he made his Under 21 debut in May 2015 against Southampton.

After being released by Man City, James was keen to make the transition to senior football and so signed for ambitious National League North club AFC Fylde. In March 2016 he was praised by his manager for his man-of-the-match performance against Boston United - "James is a fantastic footballer and he was very good on Saturday. Technically he’s one of the best players we have and if you watched us train he would probably be the one that stood out. I’m made up for him and his future looks very bright. If he keeps learning and developing then he will be a very good player and I think he is at the right place to do that."

By the end of his first season, James had appeared 23 times and scored 3 goals, and his fine end of season form contributed to Fylde making the promotion play-offs. The start of the 2016/17 season saw James continuing in top form - including a wonder-goal away to Altrincham on the 16th August 2016 - and by the end of November table-topping Fylde had seen James score 7 league goals and provide countless assists. In one memorable game against Boston on the 19th November, James scored one goal, assisted four and was involved in two more goals!

November 2016 was a fine month for James, as he also received his first England C call up - an opportunity he did not waste, as he provided two assists in a fine 2-1 away win in Estonia.
