Andy Boyle

Preston North End

Central Defender

Andy Boyle played well over 200 games in the Irish Premier Division for UCD, Shelbourne and mostly Dundalk.

A composed, strong and compact central defender, Andy played a pivotal role in Dundalk's tremendous League success in recent seasons - culminating in the 2016 season with a fantastic run firstly in the Champions League and then in the Europa League. Andy shone against the likes of Legia Warsaw, AZ Alkmaar, Zenit and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Those performances not only saw receive domestic plaudits and had UK scouts flocking to watch him, but he earned his first call up to the senior Ireland squad in November 2016 for the World Cup qualifying fixture against Austria.

The fact that Andy had - by the end of his 2016 season - been booked only 9 times in his League career is a testament to his superb reading of the game, and after receiving interest from numerous clubs Andy joined Championship club Preston North End in January 2017, signing a contract that runs until the summer of 2019.

Andy made his Preston debut on his 26th birthday, impressing away to Derby. Days later, at home to Reading, he provided an assist and shone as his side beat Reading 3-0. After just three starts for Simon Grayson's side, his second call up to a full Irish squad arrived - and this time he would go one better. On the 27th March, at home to Ireland, Andy received his first cap when he entered the field of play as a 64th minute substitute.
