Akil Wright

Fleetwood Town

Akil Wright is another product of the Ilkeston academy system, having joined the club at aged 15. His preferred position is as a central midfielder but he has also demonstrated his versatility by breaking through in to the Ilkeston first team in central defence or right back.

A physical and hard working player, Akil has already amassed some 40 games or so for Ilkeston's first team, all before he turns 19. On 2nd March 2015 Akil put in one of his best performances of his career, impressing in a man of the match effort as Ilkeston secured a crucial 1-0 away win at Blyth Spartans.

As it would transpire, that commanding performance against the Spartans would be Akil's last for Ilkeston - on the 5th March 2015 he completed a whirlwind transfer to League One club Fleetwood Town. In turning professional, and signing a contract until the summer of 2016, Akil joined fellow Full Contact client and former Ilkeston FC colleague Ashley Hunter at the Cod Army.

After impressing for Fleetwood Town's development side in the weeks following his arrival, Akil was named as a substitute in the Football League for the first time on the 14th April 2015 against MK Dons.

On the 18th September 2015, Akil joined National League North club AFC Fylde on a month's loan and played 90 minutes the following day away to Boston in a 3-0 win. During his loan spell, Akil played in 4 League fixtures (not being permitted by Fleetwood to play in the FA Cup) and played a key role as Fylde won all 4 of those games - Akil scored two goals in the process.
