Lee Payne is a full-time Football Agent (who has held a FIFA and FA Licence for many years) regulated by the FA as a Registered Intermediary.
Lee is Full Contact’s Head of Football and brings vast experience and pedigree to our offering to talented professional footballers. Lee works closely with his legal, commercial and mentoring colleagues within Full Contact to allow us to offer players a service which truly is second to none. Lee started his career as a footballer with Luton Town, before playing for Hitchin Town and Barnet. In 1988, Lee was sold to Newcastle United for what was at the time a non league record transfer fee of £125,000, before later moving to Reading. In 1990, Lee moved to Dutch first division side BV Veendam where in his first season he became player of the year making 32 appearances (as a winger) and scoring 12 goals. Three further seasons followed in the Netherlands with FC Emmen, before a serious knee injury brought Lee’s career to a premature end in 1996.
Lee, whose background is steeped in football (his father was a football manager), worked for a spell as Harry Redknapp’s West Ham European scout before deciding to become a football agent whereupon he successfully built up an impressive roster of clients. Lee’s passion is for scouting and identifying youth and raw talent, and working with a player over the long term to assist in the development of his career. Notable examples of this would be when Lee signed a young goalkeeper (Ben Foster) who he subsequently took to Manchester United, and when Lee spotted Grant Holt’s potential whilst in the lower leagues at Rochdale (who he subsequently took to Nottingham Forest, Shrewsbury and then Norwich City). Others players Lee has acted for include Svetoslav Todorov, Stephen Ireland, Paddy Kenny, Glenn Whelan, Rodrigo and Juusi Jaaskelainen. In recent times, whilst at Full Contact, Lee’s track record of identifying players in the lower or even non-leagues has continued apace – Richard Brindley, Kelle Roos, Cohen Bramall and Che Adams are just some examples of many.
Prior to joining Full Contact Lee spent a period living and working in Brazil, and retains strong links to Brazilian football in particular.
In addition to holding the FA Registered Intermediary status Lee is also approved by the FA to work with minors (players under the age of 18).
Hans van Breukelen (capped 73 times by Holland, and former Technical Director of FC Utrecht) said of Lee, “Your attitude is great. You give a lot of attention towards players. As far as I’m concerned, you are one of the best.”
Lee is fluent in Dutch and Portuguese. Lee joined Full Contact in July 2012. To contact Lee, click here.
