Full Contact client Toby Sowery has been selected for the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Award for the second year running.
After a brilliant season in British F3 where Toby, driving with Lanan Racing, took 5 race wins, finished in the points in every race and took 3rd place in the championship, Toby was considered by most observers to have been the most consistent driver of the season.
That he has been nominated for the 2016 McLaren Autosport award – in a year where the competition has slimmed down from 6 nominations to just 4 – is due recognition of that consistency and Toby’s work ethic and commitment to his sport.
Toby has an excellent racing CV; in previous years he has won various national karting championships, the F3 Cup Championship and also has been MRF Champion. He is a naturally gifted racing driver; fast, smooth, precise and consistent with good decision making.
The McLaren Autosport BRDC shoot out will see the 4 competitors fighting it out over a range of tests and assessments, including fitness, simulator work, an interview and on track tests with an F2 car, Mercedes DTM and a McLaren 650S GT3. The winner not only gets a test in a McLaren F1 car but also receives a paid role working with McLaren F1 as a simulator driver.
The other nominees are fellow British F3 driver Ricky Collard, British F4 racer Sennan Fielding and Formula Renault NEC and Eurocup champion Lando Norris. Previous McLaren Autosport award winners include David Coulthard, Jenson Button, Anthony Davidson, Paul Di Resta and Ollie Rowland.
All at Full Contact wish Toby all the very best in the shoot out later this month – the winner is announced at the annual Autosport awards, this year held in London on the 4th December 2016.
