Qualifying in 4th position for race 1, Toby continued the consistent form he set in the opening weekend of the season at Snetterton (where he netted a 4th, 3rd and 2nd placed finish) by securing his third podium of the season – finishing in 3rd place. With the reverse-grid applying for race 2, Toby would start in 6th but a quite stunning first lap of the Brands GP circuit saw him take the lead by the commencement of lap 2 – a lead he would not only hold on to, but extend to take victory by well over 9 seconds!
Toby commented after his race 2 victory “My initial getaway was similar to everyone else’s but I managed to hook it up and drive around the outside of everyone, which was a bit of a surprise! It was the perfect start though. We knew today that the track was probably going to be quicker and being in clean air leading the race was really good, as we were able to push for a lap time. We went from sixth to first on the first lap in this race so starting third should be easier!”
Unfortunately race 3 did not go so well for Toby as a car problem prevented him starting the race from the grid. Once Lanan Racing were able to get the car going again from the pits many would have assumed Toby’s race was over, but a resilient recovery drive saw him claw back 13th place which still scored him a valuable further 8 points in the Championship.
With four podiums from the first six races of the season, Toby now leads the British F3 Championship with 127 points, 19 points ahead of Ricky Collard.FC client Seb Morris begins GT career on the podium FC client Mani Dieseruvwe scores first Football League goal »
