Full Contact client Taofiq Olomowewe has today completed a dream move to Championship leaders Burnley.
19 year old Taofiq, a London-born central defender of Nigerian descent, is another success story for Full Contact. Spotted by Head of Football Lee Payne playing for the Nike Academy, Lee’s belief that Taofiq possessed fantastic natural ability and potential resulted in an offer of representation and a swiftly arranged trial at Burnley.
After playing a handful of games for Burnley’s development side, Taofiq’s dream of turning professional came true as he joins fellow Full Contact clients Josh Ginnelly and George Green at Turf Moor. Taofiq also follows in the footsteps of previous Nike Academy graduates such as Tomas Rogic and Sean Clare (who recently joined Sheffield Wednesday) and has signed a contract which runs until the end of the 2016/2017 season with an option for a further year.
Commenting on the move, Lee said “I was not at the Nike Academy to watch Taofiq but one of our clients on the opposing side but he instantly stood out for me with his physique, presence and leadership skills. He is of course raw and has a lot to learn, but for someone who has not been a scholar at a club let alone a young professional, and with no real senior football experience either, I was so impressed with what a natural player I was watching – and could see huge potential. The Nike Academy have obviously done a fabulous job in getting Taofiq up to the level he currently is at, and I was confident enough to see him trial at Burnley – and he only needed one trial! We know that Burnley will be a good club for him to learn, develop and adapt to the professional environment.”
All at Full Contact congratulate Taofiq on this magnificent achievement and wish him well as he now begins his professional career.
