Full Contact client Shaquille McDonald scored on his debut last night for loan club FC Halifax Town.
Bad weather and postponed games had meant Shaquille had to patiently await his first opportunity to turn out for Halifax after joining them on the loan deadline day from Derby County, but he wasted no time last night in demonstrating that his prolific goal-scoring at Under 21 level could be replicated in senior football. In the first minute of the game at home to Tamworth (in the FA Trophy) Shaquille had the ball in the back of the net but the goal was disallowed for an alleged foul by a team-mate, but in the 30th minute the goal would come – an excellent, powerful finish from 18 yards or so. That goal – Shaquille’s first in senior football since the 2013/2014 season when on loan to Histon in the Conference North- was celebrated with his trademark back-flip, prompting one local commentator to say ‘we don’t get too many of them down The Shay.’
A heavy challenge on Shaquille as half-time approached saw the Tamworth defender booked, and the repercussions of that foul would see Shaquille withdrawn early in the second-half as a precaution – but it was mission accomplished, having scored the debutant goal that he had desired. Halifax would win the game 5-0 and now face Barrow in the next round of the FA Trophy.
