Full Contact client Gboly Ariyibi has been called up to the US Under 23 squad for their forthcoming CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament.
Gboly, who made his first two appearances for the US U-23’s earlier this month against England U21 and Qatar (scoring in the latter game), has been named in Andi Herzog’s 20 man squad – no mean feat given the provisional squad for the tournament contained 30 players.
The tournament takes place between October 1st and 13th and the US will play group games against Canada, Cuba and Panama hoping to earn a semi-final berth. The two finalists will automatically qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics whilst the winner of the third place play-off will play a further game against Colombia in the final opportunity for a Rio spot.
The US soccer team is hoping to qualify for the Olympics for the first time since 2008.
Gboly’s first goal for his country is shown below – all at Full Contact hope it will be the first of many in his international jersey.
