Full Contact client Ash Hunter has made his first Football League start, picking up the home man of the match award in the process.
Coming on the back of 9 substitute appearances in League One – frequently impressing along the way – and his first professional goal on the 6th April against Yeovil Town, Ashley was rewarded by the Cod Army boss Graham Alexander last night with his first start.
Whilst the result did not go to plan (Fleetwood lost 3-0 at home to promotion chasing MK Dons) the team performance was good for the club in their first ever season in League One, but manager Alexander reserved special praise for Ashley in his post match interviews commenting that “Ash Hunter was superb. His heart was bigger than his body and he deserved a goal based on tonight’s performance.”
Given Ashley only joined Fleetwood from Ilkeston FC in January, his rapid progress as a professional footballer has been astounding. The night was also notable for another reason for both Full Contact and Ashley’s former club ; Akil Wright, who only joined Fleetwood in March from Ilkeston FC, took his place on the substitute’s bench for the first time.
