Full Contact client Ashley Hunter has transferred from non-league Ilkeston FC to League One club Fleetwood Town.
Ashley, 19, pictured above yesterday with Full Contact’s Dan Chapman and Lee Payne put pen to paper on an initial 18 month professional contract.
The transfer – one of the first to be completed in this January transfer window – completes a remarkable rise to prominence for Ashley who only made his first team debut for the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club on the 1st November (ironically, the fixture was also fellow Full Contact client Che Adams’ last game for Ilkeston FC). Fleetwood were amongst a number of clubs who were quickly alerted to Ashley’s pace and natural goal-scoring instincts and moved rapidly to secure his services as the transfer window opened.
Commenting on the transfer, Full Contact’s Head of Football Agency Lee Payne said “Ashley is joining a very good club in Fleetwood. We were very impressed by the vision that the Chairman has, and Director of Football Stuart Murdoch and manager Graham Alexander made a very compelling case as to why this club is the one at which Ashley should continue his footballing education at. We have recently had Harvey (Hodd) and Joe (Burgess) sign for the club too, and we feel they will give Ashley the support and development he needs. Whilst he has shone at non-league level, it is going to take time for him to settle in and work on improving his physicality but he’s got a real chance now to kick on and make a name for himself.”
Dan Chapman, senior partner of Full Contact, said “Steve Curwood and Stuart Murdoch of Fleetwood worked very hard on making this move happen, and thanks must go again to Ilkeston and Nigel Harrop for their tireless work and support in allowing their young players to progress on to the professional game. In 2014 we were proud at Full Contact to move a number of players from non-league to the League ; starting with Kelle Roos from Nuneaton to Derby in January and ending the year with Che Adams going from Ilkeston to Sheffield United with many in between. But to start 2015 with another non-league success story is something we take great pride in, and we look forward to supporting Ashley in this exciting next stage to his career.”
All at Full Contact wish Ashley and Fleetwood Town all the best for the remainder of the season.
