Full Contact clients Kieran Agard and Richard Brindley both enjoyed a remarkable day in the Wembley sun, as Rotherham United won the League 1 play-off final and secured promotion to the Championship.
Leyton Orient had surged in to a 2-0 lead by half-time, and Rotherham’s dreams of a second successive promotion were in tatters. Richard was the first substitute deployed by Rotherham’s manager Steve Evans, coming on in the 54th minute – a great moment considering that a hamstring injury in the first leg of the semi-final had appeared to have ended Richard’s season. The flow of the game changed immediately, as within six minutes the score was 2-2. A thrilling encounter in glorious Wembley sunshine would require extra-time, but still neither side could grab a vital third goal. A penalty shoot-out was required to determine promotion, and Kieran (who played all 120 minutes) had the huge task of taking the first spot kick – a task, however, he relished as he calmly slotted home. It was fitting that a season full of goals for Kieran would end with a converted penalty at the home of football.
Rotherham would go on to win the penalty shoot-out and secure a famous promotion. For both Kieran and Richard, the second tier of football now awaits them.
All at Full Contact are proud of their achievements, and look forward to them proving their credentials in the Championship next season.
