Full Contact client and McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist Seb Morris will step-up into the ultra-competitive Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup (NEC) in 2014, after finalising a deal with reigning champion team Fortec Motorsport.
18-year-old Seb will embark on his first season of European level competition in single-seaters off the back of a strong year in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship where he concluded the campaign as category Vice-Champion. Taking 10 podiums in total, the British Racing Drivers’ Club ‘Rising Star’ and MSA (Motor Sports Association) Academy racer went on to be named as one of six finalists for the highly prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.
With three car racing titles already on his CV – the 2010 Ginetta Junior Winter Series crown, the 2011 Ginetta Junior Championship and the 2012 Protyre Formula Renault Winter Series title, the latter with Fortec – Seb is unsurprisingly aiming for a strong maiden year in Europe.
“I’m really happy to be back as part of the Fortec family and especially in Formula Renault NEC, it promises to be a fantastic season”, he commented, “We had planned to graduate to Europe last year but it didn’t quite happen, so now I’m determined to hit the ground running after some good winter testing and make a challenge for podiums and wins.
“The main aim is to try and win the championship, it’s not going to be easy and it looks as though there’s going to be a very competitive grid once again in NEC this year. Fortec will undoubtedly give me a great car, though, and I’m sure we’ll have the package to be major contenders.”
Seb, an ambassador for Swiss luxury watch brand TAG Heuer and British sportscar manufacturer Ginetta Cars, obviously has experience of Formula Renault from when he contested the UK-based series a couple of years ago. The car which features in the Northern European Cup, however, is a more contemporary version of the carbon fibre Tatuus-constructed FR 2.0 chassis.
The 2014 championship will get underway on 12th/13th April at Monza in Italy, in support of the Blancpain Endurance Series, with a ‘home’ event for Seb following on 24th/25th May at the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit. Visits to Hockenheim in Germany, Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, Assen in the Netherlands and Most in the Czech Republic follow with the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC season reaching its conclusion at Germany’s Nurburgring on 20th/21st September.
Dan Chapman, senior partner of Full Contact, commented “We are all looking forward to 2014 for Seb ; an awful lot of work has gone on behind the scenes by the whole team since the end of the 2013 season, and signing for Fortec is a significant part of exciting plans that we have for this year as we look to take Seb’s racing career to a much higher level.”
We wish Seb and Fortec all the best for the coming season.
