Full Contact client Luciano Bacheta won race 2 in this weekend’s Moroccan Auto GP, to promote him to third place in the overall championship standings after four races of the sixteen race championship.
After a difficult qualifying session hampered by problems with the car, Luciano was only able to finish eighth in race 1. On Sunday, however, he was able to capitalise on a pole position notwithstanding a safety car which saw his early lead vanish. In a crash-stricken race Luciano drove in his usual measured fashion to keep out of trouble and bring his first victory in Auto GP home.
Luciano commented “It’s a great feeling. It was a tough race with many incidents, but we did a great job staying out of trouble. You always value these kind of races, once they are finished.”
Luciano has amassed 43 points so far in the Auto GP championship and stands behind Sergio Campana and Kimiya Sato. Given his lack of pre-season testing and some of the mechanical difficulties encountered so far, he is well placed to launch an attack on the title as the season progresses.
